James Winter, Director of the non profit collaborative, Brand X, joined us at one of our recent REBORN.Inspires sessions where he unfolded the Brand X journey and how the company came into being as a response to the lack of affordable working space for artists in Sydney.
Run by artists and for artists, Brand X traded for 4 years from the top-floor of a warehouse on Queen Street in Chippendale. Over that time the studio serviced 18,132 artists with a rehearsal studio space before it shut it’s doors in June 2009.
The Brand X/Frasers Property initiative providing vacant warehouse space to artists launched in late 2008 when Brand X were invited by the group to manage their studio facility in the old Kent Brewery development site on Broadway.
A more recent collaboration involves the company managing a state of the art creative space on Level 3 at Central Park, Chippendale where one will be inspired by the ever changing smorgasbord of ideas, art, installations, performances and interactivity.
