- Facebook announced an update to Facebook page organic reach reporting that will result in numbers up to 20% lower than what is normally reported. NB. All that changes is the way organic reach is reported.
- Facebook’s controversial app Messenger Kids, which lets parents control who kids can talk to, has rolled out in the U.S.
- Coming soon: Facebook is testing a city-specific section of its app called ‘Today In’ to focus on and elevate local news and events.
- Coming soon: The General Data Protection Regulation will come into effect as of May 2018, creating consistent data protection rules across Europe. It applies to companies who are based in the EU and global companies who process personal data about individuals in the EU.
- Instagram finally made a long overdue update that allows you to pre-schedule posts throw third party platforms, including Sprout Social and Hootsuite.
- You can now follow hashtags. By following a hashtag, you’ll see top posts from that hashtag in your feed and some of the latest stories involving that hashtag in your stories bar. Brands can use this feature to monitor their own hashtag and easily review the best UGC.
- Instagram seems to be rolling out a Rights Manager on the platform, making it easier for copyright owners to monitor and protect their content. Important for brands, as users will be able to block 3rd parties from reposting their content (video only).
- Instagram rolls out replay privacy controls when sending images or videos in a direct message.
Snapchat
- After their last redesign was so widely hated, Snapchat is now creating another new version in a bid to revert to the old, more popular app.
